“Observe the good man, and behold the upright, for there is immortality for the man of peace.” From Psalms Those in attendance at the Symposium knew Dr. Eli M. Pearce as a chemist, colleague, teacher, leader, and friend. Through the presentations, we will be reminded of his many roles with the ACS, and how he influenced the organization and the field in areas related to safety and health, diversity, expanding opportunities and creating communities. These action areas grew out of his deeply held beliefs and values, particularly his passionate commitment to the creative pursuit of ideas and excellence, and the inherent worth and dignity of all human beings. I will share some personal information and photographs, providing a window into how he expressed these values in all his relationships, and through that influenced and impacted his family members and our lives in many positive ways. This will be an anecdotal rather than an academic presentation. The primary references will be family stories, memories, and photographs. My objective is for participants to learn more about Dr. Pearce as a father and family member, and how those qualities they are remembering fondly were also expressed in his personal life and legacy.
