We recently reported the active role of triethylphosphine as an effective active reagent in reactions leading to hydrodefluorination (HDF) of hexalurobenzene and pentafluoropyridine (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2014, 136, 4634-4639). In order to expand the scope of this reaction to other fluorinated substrates, with the sole use of triethylphosphine as HDF reagent was assessed with a wide variety of fluoroaromatics. HDF yields were high (90% &gt;) and selective to direct aromatic C-F bonds.
