Supported metal nanoparticles are widely used as catalysts for the production of transportation fuels and chemicals as well as in environmental processes. The composition, size and shape of nanoparticles affect the catalysts performance. The spatial distribution of nanoparticles has been controlled and studied to a much smaller extent. Stu Soled has reported on effects of nanoparticle distribution on sintering of supported Ru catalysts [1]. First, we report work on the distribution of copper, cobalt and nickel in supported catalysts and its impact on catalysts stability in methanol synthesis, Fischer Tropsch synthesis and methanation, respectively [2]. Also the challenge to obtain meaningful experimental data on nanoparticle distribution using electron tomography and SAXS is addressed [3]. Second, the control of the spatial distribution of previously synthesized iron oxide nanocrystals (Fe-NC) over a carbon nanotube (CNT) support are discussed. These Fe-NC/CNT catalysts are shown to have great potential to unravel stability effects in Fischer Tropsch synthesis [4]. Third, we report on distribution at will of Pt nanoparticles on the binder (Al2O3) or on the zeolite (Y) in composite Pt/Al2O3/Y hydrocracking catalysts [5]. References 1. S.
