Creating a dioxime capable of crossing the blood brain barrier (BBB) could provide relief against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors such as organophosphorus nerve agents and pesticides. By conjugating a dioxime with a sugar, the molecule is more likely to be transported by BBB glucose transporters. The alkylation between the dioxime and sugar can be modified to maximize affinity with the desired transporters. By modeling the BBB with pluripotent epithelial stem cells, a strong assessment can be made about the drug permeability and pharmacological possibilities.
