We have investigated the vibrational spectra of several metal-CO2 clusters, [M(CO2)n]-, (M = Au, Ag, Cu, Co, Ni, Mn, Bi, Sn) over the last years. The vibrational features encoding structural motifs of the charge carriers in these clusters show a large variety of charge carrier structures, such as metalloformates, coordination complexes, oxalates, etc. Some of these structural motifs can show large amplitude motion, while others do not. We will give an overview of structures and charge distributions in [M(CO2)n]- cluster ions and discuss some more general conclusion we can draw.
