Applications of our stereospecific nickel-catalyzed Kumada-type cross coupling reaction are detailed. Ring-opening reactions of tetrahydropyrans and tetrahydrofurans can provide complex substituted acyclic products and is tolerant of a variety of heteroaromatic groups and nucleophiles. A multi-gram scale cross-coupling reaction utilizing a bench-stable catalyst rapidly generates complexity in a diversity oriented synthetic plan. Additionally, isotopically-labeled nucleophiles are successfully implemented, which allows for the synthesis of biologically relevant molecules bearing stable isotope tracers.
