Non-isothermal and isothermal crystallization kinetics of industrial polyethylene (PE) resins, including octane copolymers where only the polyethylene sequences crystallize, were studied by fast scanning chip nano-calorimetry (FSC) for cooling rates up to 106 K/s and crystallization half times down to 10-4 s, respectively. Depending on chain architecture crystallization temperatures vary by 70 K for comparable cooling rates in the range from 1 K/s to 106 K/s (see the figure). Similarly, at a given crystallization half time isothermal crystallization curves are shifted comparably in temperature. All PE resins, independent on the actual crystallization temperature, approach the fastest accessible half time of crystallization of 10-4 s.
