Great efforts have been devoted to developing crystalline porous frameworks over the past two decades. Among them, open framework chalcogenides have been shown as promising optic or electronic materials by integrating porosity with semiconducting properties. Construction of frameworks with new structures or topologies and fine tuning of known materials are the two most common ways to design materials with desired applications. Most of the previous works related to open framework chalcogenides were focused on the design of new structures based on supertetrahedral clusters. The change of the chemical compositions or metal doping is a well-established strategy to tune the electronic structures that has been adopted in many fields, especially in the study of dense phase solid state materials. In comparison with other materials, less efforts in the past has been directed to the studying and modification of electronic structures via fine tuning of chemical compositions in open framework chalcogenides. Here a series of highly stable chalcogenide frameworks are utilized as the platform to study how structures and electronic properties can be tuned by varying their chemical compositions. It is interesting that the composition diversity makes it feasible to control the framework topologies. In addition, the optical properties of the materials and their correlation with porosity will also be presented.
