The CO2 concentration in air has been continuously increasing mainly due to the combustion of fossil fuels. To slow down the emission rate of carbon dioxide and prevent severe global warming, a feasible strategy must be proposed to capture CO2 from its emission sources. Amine functionalized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) stand out as a promising material to address the problem. Alkylamines grafted on the internal surface of MOFs endow these materials with strong CO2 affinity. The solid nature of MOFs significantly reduces their regeneration energy. Here, we employ a series of isostructural MOFs to tether alkylamines for CO2 capture. Several experimental factors, like structure, amine quantity, etc, are involved in the tethering procedure, which might affect the result. Thus, we conducted a systematic exploration to optimize these experimental factors and tried to rationalize how they would influence amine tethering process and the CO2 capture performance of the modified MOF.
