A new MnCo3 oxido cubane complex is synthesized.The cubane is easily post-modified to obtain ligand-substituted products. Addition of a fifth transition metal is also possible to obtain a "dangler" complex. The spectroscopic, magnetic, and electrochemical behaviors of these new clusters are explored. Results demonstrate the ligand field strength, and the presence of the dangler can greatly affect the electronic structure of the [MnCo3O4] core.
