Bisphosphsphine monoxide gold(I) complex is a new type of catalysts, which has been studied for hydrofunctionalizations of alkynes. This catalyst has been further studied for hydroamination reactions of both alkenes and alkynes under various reaction conditions. The activation of substrates and catalyst deactivation processes caused by the substrates are critical aspects in the development of more efficient catalysts and will be discussed. <sup>31</sup>P NMR studies of reaction solutions were recorded to follow individual steps of the reaction mechanism.
