Nickel containing enzymes have been the subject of increased interest in recent years due to the fundamental yet selective role that this metal plays in biochemical transformations. Nickel acireductone dioxygenase (Ni-ARD) is part of a small group of non-redox active metalloenzymes. Its main proposed function is involved in the regulation of cell growth co-factors in plants as well as the pathways associated with fruit ripening. A novel family of structural models of the enzyme have been recently synthesized. An analysis of the structural and spectroscopic properties of these complexes will be presented to illustrate their potential to act as biomimics of Ni-ARD.<br/>
