Among the contemporary strategies offered to surface scientists and diamond experts to functionalize diamond surfaces is the aryldiazonium salts grafting for the attachment of aryl functional groups which emerged as a versatile, elegant, and easy approach to implement. It is applicable to several types of diamond materials. The new approach of nanodiamonds modification is different than other methods of in the <i>in situ</i> reduction of the diazonium gold(III) salts and the utilization of the new robust covalently functionalized gold nanoparticles to modify nanoparticulates. In this work we will highlight the efficiency of aryl diazonium salts to construct novel multicomponent nano-objects provided that the counterion for the diazonium is appropriately chosen. By selecting tetrachloroaurate(III) as anion, we demonstrate that it is simple and efficient to design unusual, ternary core/shell nanodiamonds/gold-aryl nanohybrids.
