The hexanuclear hydride H6Cu6(PPh3)6 can be reversibly oxidized to the radical cation [H6Cu6(PPh3)6]÷●. The latter slowly evolves H2 and forms other hydrides, one of which is a heptanuclear radical cation [H6Cu7(PPh3)7]+ with the structure shown in Figure 1. One face of the original hexamer has become capped by a [(PPh3)Cu]+ unit. We have also found a reliable synthesis of the previously reported H5Cu5(PPh3)5[1], and characterized it by NMR.
