Different kinds of the metathesis catalysts and their reactions have been broadly studied since 1990, and the metathesis reactions (such as ROMP and CM) have been becoming one of very important synthetic methods in preparation of some high performance polymer materials, but it is still a problem about how to discover the Cross Metathesis (CM) and hydrogenation catalysts valuable for preparation of lower Mooney HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber, a valuable specialty rubber broadly used in the car and oil industries). This presentation discloses the discovery and uses of novel catalysts highly effective for preparation of lower Mooney HNBR. So far, several of new structure-optimized catalysts were designed and prepared for catalytic study of the Cross Metathesis of NBR and selective hydrogenation, and it was found that some new catalysts were high effective to prepare different kinds of lower Mooney HNBR products (such as 20-40 of Mooney viscosity and 90-99% of hydrogenated saturation) with excellent physical properties and broad uses. Furthermore, different kinds of the catalysts and their reactions were evaluated to discover the best-in-class catalyst, and several of new catalysts were well developed and used effectively to prepare HNBR, especially lower Mooney HNBR. In conclusion, the lower Mooney HNBR was prepared selectively by the new developed Cross metathesis and hydrogenation reactions with new catalysts, and the low Mooney HNBR was prepared and determined not only to improve the physical and mechanical properties of specialty rubber, but also to improve the processing performance of compounds, which could provide rubber industry with another unique method for preparation of high quality HNBR products in broad range of Mooney viscosity, especially for low Mooney HMNR.
