Reactions of chromium manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc with their respective chlorides, bromides and iodides were studied at high temperatures.  The reactions were followed by visual observations and by thermal analysis.  Intermediates and final products were characterized by UV-visible and Raman spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility.
