The Student Affiliated ACS (SAACS) Chemistry Club at the University of Colorado Denver (UCD) has built a repertoire of events and student outreach activities over the years. Among time-tested, popular events are the undergraduate research symposiums and liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstrations, both of which allow students of all levels to learn more about chemistry and related facilities on campus. However, each year offers potential for growth within the club. Opportunities for community engagement and personal development are prevalent among the youth outreach with local schools and undergraduate-mediated events that the SAACS at UCD helps coordinate. Youth outreach and undergraduate events are frequently the crux of new activities, such as the welcoming party, oobleck demonstrations, and seminar-series discussions. These activities maintain an ecological theme by using biodegradable or recyclable products whenever possible; likewise, returning activities are evaluated to optimize sustainability since each activity, whether new or old, is considered a reflection of the environmental goals of the SAACS at UCD. By incorporating new activities, along with continued favorites, the SAACS at UCD can target the specific needs of the college and the community. This strategy allows for the promotion of science-based enthusiasm and an awareness of chemistry's vital role among members of the SAACS at UCD and participants of these events.
