This study concerns a hydrothermal method to synthesis nanosized MoS2. Introduction of a organic solvent leads to formation of curvature and defects to the basal plane of MoS2. Techniques such as XRD, Auto-sorb, XANES, TEM, EXAFS, etc are applied to characterize the resulted MoS2. It is shown that stacked MoS2 can be bent when they are restricted in limited growth space. The increased defective sites are also correlated with catalyst activity.
