The aim of this experiment is to study the Overman rearrangement for a second-year level organic chemistry laboratory. The main objective of this experiment is to educate students about a variation of a sigmatropic rearrangement taught in the second-year organic chemistry course. In connection to that, this sigmatropic rearrangement has not been described in the <i>Journal of Chemical Education</i>. Organic chemistry students are exposed to other types of sigmatropic rearrangements, i.e., Claisen Rearrangement, and this causes a misconception that there is only one sigmatropic rearrangement.
