The American Chemical Society mission statement is “to advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people.” As stated, we are always on the forefront and looking for new alternatives to change the world we live in and impact our communities. Student members play an important role in our society. Students are the future leaders and the change we need to have a better future. The Puerto Rico Local Section has with 1,311 undergraduate student members, making them the most important and prominent body of our section. The Student Chapters Affairs Committee was implemented to support the communication between student chapters, create a better understanding about the American Chemical Society and the most important goal; unify the student’ chapters to develop the future leaders of the ACS. This year we have achieved new breakthroughs with the chapters through networking, activities collaboration, field trips and leadership workshops. The committee is engaged with the students to enhance their college experience and prepare them for successful careers through the American Chemical Society. As leaders, advisors, professors and active members of the ACS, we must address student chapters’ needs and help them be the future leaders of our society. Students are the change, the new seed; so by helping them grow, we are giving society a brighter future.
