ACS at the University of Central Florida (ACS@UCF) is a tightly-knit group of students dedicated to community service, professional development, and a commitment to chemistry. Our chapter's fantastic location, amongst a 60,000+ student body and extremely affluent Orlando area, provides continuously outstanding opportunities for networking and spreading our excitement about chemistry to the community. ACS@UCF's biggest project of the 2015-2016 school year has been piloting the very first ACS Florida Chemistry Conclave, headed by our Vice President Ms. Lauren Gandy. ACS chapters from all over the state of Florida will be travelling to UCF this Spring for a day of networking, workshops, and a green chemistry-themed community service event. Another fantastic 2015-2016 new initiative is Bonding with Bithlo- a nationally funded program for ACS@UCF to conduct interactive experiments and demonstrations with students in the nearby impoverished town of Bithlo. To reward members for participating in service events like Bonding with Bithlo, ACS@UCF is now (as of 2015) a President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) Certifying Organization and we can officially award members the PSVA upon completion of 100+ service hours within one annual year. Furthermore, we are able to bring our most active members to the National ACS Conference each spring thanks to our diligent fundraising efforts. Our largest fundraiser is the sale personal protective equipment (PPE) to UCF chemistry students. This year, PPE order transactions have all been conducted online and have our sales have increased by almost 40% compared to years previous. Our second largest fundraiser is our tutoring initiative headed by our Tutoring Chair, Brian Letang. Members provide one-on-one tutoring sessions for UCF science students, and we are now also hosting a General Chemistry Final Exam Review for students at the end of the academic semester. ACS@UCF continues to inspire its members about the importance of being an ACS student member and inspire the community about the importance of chemistry.
