Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly cancers due to its aggressive nature and its ability to adapt to its microenvironment within the body. According to the American Cancer Society, the one-year relative survival rate is 20% and the five-year rate is 6% for all stages of pancreatic cancer combined. In an effort to develop effective anti-pancreatic cancer therapies, our laboratory designed and synthesized a novel and potent series of isoprenylated coumarin compounds based upon the core structure of Angelmarin. The farnesylated coumarin compound, in particular, has demonstrated promising activity against PANC-1. This research evaluates the relative potency of our lead compound versus commonly prescribed anticancer agents against PANC-1 under nutrient-rich and nutrient-deprived conditions.
