Lanthanide based metal organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) offer a distinct advantage for use as luminescent materials. Lanthanide ions, especially Eu3+ and Tb3+ are attractive candidates for luminescent materials because of their unique photophysical properties such as large Stokes shift, long lived excited state lifetime (ms for Eu3+ and Tb3+), high luminescent quantum yield and sharp narrow bands. The combination of these intrinsic luminescent features of lanthanide ions together with the unique characteristics of MOFs provides a fascinating opportunity for designing novel luminescent solid materials. The development of Ln-MOFs remains challenging due to their high and variable coordination numbers and the low stereochemical preferences that make it difficult to assemble the desired topologies. Here in we report a mild method for the synthesis of novel series of isostructural Ln-MOFs. These iminodiacetate based frameworks were synthesized without using any auxiliary ligands under aqueous conditions. The structures of the synthesized frameworks were fully elucidated and their photophysical properties were investigated.
