As the vast majority of scientific data are collected and analyzed electronically, it is more critical than ever to develop good data management habits early and often to support data re-use and scientific integrity. Skills for managing data range from organization and back-up, to quality control and documentation, to publication and citation. These skills underly the successful application of informatics techniques to scientific data problems as well as improve basic scientific research workflow. This presentation will share best practices from chemistry trained librarians supporting research scientists. We will describe the development and implementation of data reproducibility exercises as part of the inaugural OnLine Cheminformatics Course run in the Fall 2015 semester under the CHED ConfChem program. The presentation will reflect on what worked and didn’t work as well for covering this topic in an online course forum.
