Synthesis of hetero-aromatic analogues of anti-viral 2,3-bis-aryl-3-chloropropenals have been prepared in good yields via synthetic steps 1. preparation of heteroaryl benzyl ketones (ArCH<sub>2</sub>C(O)Hetero-aryl) and 2. Vilsmeier-Haack formylation chlorodehydration of the ketones.
