<br/>Organic chemistry courses are among the most challenging courses for undergraduates navigating the academic waters toward many science/health-based professions. Attrition rates are notoriously high and students often find themselves taking the course multiple times to obtain a score worthy of getting into a professional school. This talk will focus on the numerous challenges for transferring a face-to-face 300-level organic chemistry course to a fully online, academically engaging and challenging course. Topics covered will include: course design, structure and layout, technology and software, as well as increasing student-student interactions and instructor presence in the classroom. The audience will come away with a thorough understanding of the opportunities afforded by teaching this class online, as well as some ideas for incorporating these strategies into their own courses.
