Exciting students about chemistry and engaging them in the process of learning is a challenge faced by many chemistry educators. With the wide variety of digital resources available, it can be difficult to determine not only which resources to incorporate but how to use those resources most effectively while teaching. We explore the theory behind the creation and the application of digital course materials and online homework. These materials provide visually appealing environments that allow students to immerse themselves in content that is linked and integrated unlike any traditional textbook and incorporate activities with many possible applications including lecture demonstrations, small group student work, homework assignments and pre-lab activities. We discuss the theory behind the design and creation of these materials, as well as their application both in and out of the classroom. We also discuss how instructors can create their own content to integrate in this platform. Instructors will discover the power of learning through the digital medium, and how it can be incorporated into their teaching in order to increase student engagement.<br/>
