The design of synthetic receptors for peptides and proteins has fascinated supramolecular chemists for decades.  Despite the challenges of synthesizing large structures, working in aqueous solution, and targeting molecules that have substantial structural degeneracy, there have been substantial advances in this field in recent years.  This poster will highlight our work in the development of cucurbit[n]uril (Qn) hosts as receptors for peptides and protens, focusing in particular on the optimization of binding affinity and sequence specificity, as well as applications in biosensing, protein separation, and catalysis.
