Ionic liquids (ILs) have received a considerable upsurge of interest as green solvents for organic synthesis and separation technologies due to their superior physicochemical properties over conventional volatile organic solvents. In this work, we explore the synthesis of a comprehensive library of hydrophobic bifunctional trimethoxysilyl-functionalized ionic liquids with a varying thioether spacer, utilizing the thiol-ene click reaction. In addition, we will discuss their physicochemical properties along with their ability to form stable ionogels, which was tested by immobilizing them onto the surface of iron oxide supermagnetic nanoparticles and quantification of the organic loadings.
