The substitutional doping of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with main-group elements (e. g. boron) provides a powerful tool to adjust their optoelectronic properties. By combining Peterson olefinations, Ru-catalyzed alkyne annulations and stilbene-type photocyclizations, we developed a modular synthesis strategy to prepare an extensive series of benchtop-stable, π-conjugated triarylboranes (Figure 1). These compounds show intense blue fluorescence with excellent quantum yields and reversible electrochemical behavior, rendering them promising candidates for materials development and organic electronics.1,2 1 Hertz, V.
