In situ IR and Raman spectroscopy are highly versatile and powerful tools to monitor a wide range of reactions and processes. Several industrial examples will be presented showcasing how quantitative reaction profiles can be obtained by appropriate data analysis and normalization. While methods such as PLS and PCA are the dominant chemometric methods used in literature, we find that CLS is more effective, robust and appropriate for industrial R&D applications. We will use examples from the author's industrial projects to illustrate this and examples include insecticides manufacturing, polymerization reaction monitoring, and inorganic materials synthesis. Special emphasis is attached to the appropriate use of the CLS method, tricks involved, and how to get robust models with minimum amount of effort.
