This presentation will describe a point-of-need diagnostic platform that provides qualitative and quantitative readouts, where the quantitative readout is obtained by measuring the time required for two regions on a paper-based device to turn color relative to one another. The user need only add the sample to the device, thus ensuring that it is easy to use. Depolymerizable polymers provide flow control and in-line signal amplification during the assays, and thus enable low limits of detection for target analytes. The platform is capable of measuring enzymes, small organic molecules, inorganic ions, and antigens, and thus displays a level of generality that should be useful for a variety of point-of-need applications.
