Transition metal-bismuth compounds commonly exhibit intriguing properties such as ferromagnetism and superconductivity; one such bismuth binary, the superconductor NiBi, is worthy of further study. In this presentation we report the synthesis of the largest single crystals of Ni<sub>1-x</sub>Bi known in literature, which has facilitated the collection of low-temperature measurements and investigation of superconducting properties. The crystal structure, while similar to the NiAs structure, contains interstitial nickel atoms octahedrally coordinated by other nickel atoms as well as partially occupied sites, consistent with previous structural characterization. We report temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements performed on a single crystal that allowed the determination of a critical temperature of approximately 4.35 K. Heat capacity data reveal that only a small fraction of the single crystal contributes to the observed superconductivity, suggesting a relationship between nickel occupancy and superconducting properties.
