Ruthenium complexes have various applications in organic transformations and become attractive for applications in atom-economical reaction. One interesting property of ruthenium catalyst is the dual reactivity, where cationic ruthenium complexes could either serve as lewis acid or as redox center through single electron process. Some new ruthenium(II) di-phosphine complexe, [Ru(dppp)2(CH3CN)Cl][BPh4] (1) have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Fatty acid enol ester (known as fee), a biosynthetic gene cluster which were isolated from cultured bacteria. The long-chain fatty acid enol esters were synthesized from substituted acetaldehydes and long-chain acid chlorides. However, the enol esters were obtained as 1:1 mixtures of cis and trans products. The complex 1 is used as active catalysts for the atom economical stereo- and regioselective synthesis of Z- selective long-chain fatty acid enol esters (fee) via the anti-Markovnikov addition of saturated and unsaturarted long-chain fatty acids to terminal alkynes with good to excellent yield. (Scheme-1) and the complex 1 also act as active catalyst for the newly developed sequential one pot synthesis of O-dienyl esters via the regio- and stereoselective anti-Markovnikov addition of carboxylic acids to terminal propargylic alcohols and their atom transfer radical polymerisation via sequential formation of a carbon-oxygen bond and dehydration followed by atom transfer radical polymerization (Scheme-2).
