Chemical safety is of paramount importance at all levels of chemical education. The Task Force for Safety Education Guidelines recently published the Guidelines for Chemical Safety in Secondary Schools in order to address chemical safety from the standpoint of understanding why safety is important, especially at the junior high and high school levels. Designed specifically for a high school environment, written with input from two experienced high school chemistry teachers, and using the R.A.M.P concept for scientific safety, these guidelines will help teachers establish and nurture a culture of scientific safety in their students as well as handle incidents or emergency situations in their classrooms.
