In this article, nano-lubricant and high efficiency lubricating drilling fluid have been designed and developed to overcome the drawbacks of conventional lubricant for drilling fluid, such as low temperature resistance, inferior lubrication effect for lasting, high foaming rate and poor compatibility of drilling fluid. Firstly, organic montmorillonite (OMMT) was synthesized by sodium montmorillonite (MMT) that had been modified with sodium dodecyl sulfonate emulsifier (SDSN), then, polystyrene/organic montmorillonite extreme pressure-antiwear additives (PS/OMMT) were prepared with organic montmorillonite via emulsion polymerization, lastly, the polystyrene/organic montmorillonite extreme pressure-antiwear additives were added into NBR silicone oil to form drilling fluid lubricant composition and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), flourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and laser particle analyzer.<br/>The experiment evaluation shows that the nano composites lubricant could be used at temperature as high as 200 degrees Celsius and had no adverse effect on the behavior of drilling fluid. The reduced rate of the frication coefficient of the lubricant was over 85.0% and it could reduce fluid loss control to some extent when the adding amount of the lubricant was 1.0 wt%. With Low foaming rate, excellent salt resistance and cutting pollution resistance, the lubricant could be used at salt water drilling fluid and the fluorescent grade was 3 to 4. The mechanism of drag reduction is that the nano particles can generate the transformation from static friction to rolling friction like the small bearings, and it can reduce the friction coefficient effectively and produce nano particles repair effect on the surface wear of the friction pairs to improve the effectiveness of lubrication.
