The Na2WO4/Mn/SiO2 catalyst is one of the feasible catalysts for oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) to produce C2 and higher hydrocarbon molecules. While its activity and selectivity have been confirmed in the literature, the origin of its activity is not completely understood. Although the microscopic characterizations have been frequently attempted, the room temperature characterization limited understanding the catalytic activity, actually occurring at the high reaction temperature (&gt; 700 °C). The objective of this study is to understand the OCM depending on the macroscopic reaction parameters including gas hourly space velocity (GHSV), thickness of catalyst bed, fractions of inert diluents and other reagents, and change of catalysts at the high reaction temperatures. Both fresh and spent catalysts were characterized using catalyst characterization tools including XRD, XPS, Raman, O2-TPD, and CO2-TPD, which improve the understanding of the catalysis at the high reaction temperatures.
