This presentation first briefly addresses a topic where Dr. M. M. Boduszynski pioneering work made key contributions to the understanding of the molecular composition of crude oils: 1. Moving forward from the “Dark ages” of very large molecular weight components like asphaltenes; the concept of continuous compositional distributions of petroleum. Published articles from Dr. Boduszynski influenced research later carried out by the presenter on two topics that will be discussed in greater detail: 2. The occurrence of induced thermal cracking during the analysis of oil fractions. 3. The existence of very large molecular weight paraffinic compounds, believed to be neglected at present and leading to a funny follow up from one famous article: “Large C#/ Low DBE components, Where are you?”.
