Abstract Azo-Tetrazolate salts and their derivatives have identical negatively charged conjugated nitrogen rings and two varied positively charged cations. The varied cations are Guanidinium, Aminoguanidinium, Diaminoguanidinium, Triaminoguanidinium and Ammonium. Azo-Tetrazolate salts and their derivatives were synthesized and fully characterized by multinuclear spectroscopy (NMR) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The thermal behaviors and decomposition kinetics of Guanidinium Azo-Tetrazolate (GAT), Aminoguanidinium Azo-Tetrazolate (AGAT), Diaminoguanidinium Azo-Tetrazolate (DAGAT), Triaminoguanidinium Azo-Tetrazolate (TAGAT) and Ammonium Azo-Tetrazolate (AZT), were investigated by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetery (TGA) techniques. After applying DSC techniques, the energetic materials gave an exothermic peak in the DSC curve, not melting before they decompose. Hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), has the potential to be a form of fuel for devices such as hybrid rockets. However, presence studies on the topic have been nonexistent in the past 30 years. Present-day work on HTPB includes studying its thermal decomposition in the presence and absence of energetic material. Different percentages (15%, 20%, 25%) by mass of Azo-Tetrazolate based high nitrogen materials were used. This is carried out within an atmospheric oxygen setting. A scanning calorimeter (DSC) is utilized in order to analyze how heat affects HTPB within the aforementioned compounds. Plain HTPB has two peaks, with the first occurring at approximately 200 °C and the second occurring at 350 °C. Increasing the percentage of GAT, AGAT and DAGAT decreased the degradation temperature of the mixture. But almost no effect on the degradation temperature of the AZT mixture was seen for such increasing. For the GAT, AGAT, & AZT mixtures, the first degradation temperature, like that of plain HTPB, was lower than the mixture’s temperature and was higher for DAGAT mixture. The degradation temperature of the second peak of plain HTPB shifted down in the mixture of GAT, AGAT, DAGAT and AZT. Strong interaction occurred between the HTPB and the DAGAT while no interaction occurred between HTPB and the GAT, AGAT, and AZT mixture.
