For over ten years, the Interactive Online Network of Inorganic Chemists (IONiC) has sought to improve teaching and learning in Inorganic Chemistry. The foundation of this community is the Virtual Inorganic Pedagogical Electronic Resource (VIPEr) website. With over 900 registered faculty users from around the world, VIPEr is a vibrant community of practice for committed educators. The feature of the greatest value to the majority of our users is the continued development of high quality learning objects (LOs) which range from problem sets to laboratories to literature discussions. The site currently houses over 800 LOs with over 75 of those being published during 2016. Many of these have been developed at our summer Back to Grad School Workshops. The site will continue to grow and improve with the valuable input from our community that is often the result of meetings and workshops. In addition to the VIPEr site, the IONiC community continues to flourish through outgrowths such as social media, ACS meetings and our workshops. Participants in our workshops have gone on to develop and host workshops of their own helping to grow to community at the local level. VIPEr is approaching a time for shedding its skin and the community is going to play an active role as the next phase of VIPEr emerges.
