Over the last 15 years, companies worldwide are realizing the socio-economic benefits of adoption of the green chemistry and are demanding chemicals with smaller toxicity footprint. Governments worldwide are also responding to the increased environmental awareness by their constituents and are implementing increasingly stringent regulations related to the type and amount of waste being generated and the manufacturing processes. As a result, chemical industry is under tremendous pressure to improve their manufacturing processes, while maintaining their profit-margin in increasingly competitive market.<br/><br/>In this presentation, I will discuss all the data and tools available to the scientists from various public domain, and identify the gaps that need to be filled in order to equip the people (chemists and chemical engineers) who define the product development processes, with information they need to make environmentally-friendly choices without compromising their performance.<br/><br/>I will also discuss a software solution that provides all chemical and toxicity information scientists need to make environmentally friendly choices. It graphically shows ecological, health and safety scores, so the chemists and chemical engineers can understand the toxicity implications without having to understand the complex toxicity data. Additionally, it lets you compare chemicals, identifies better choices based on chemical’s properties, GHS classification, and health issues, and supports all existing, new and even postulated molecules.
