In the history of a scientific discipline there is a point when a coherent presentation of the elements of the science can be made.  For Chemistry, a good example of such a tome is Herman Boerhaave’s “Elementa Chemiae” (1732). This work dominated the teaching of Chemistry in the 18<sup>th</sup> century.  As this time period was coming to a close, many dramatic improvements in the understanding of Chemistry occurred, associated with people like Lavoisier and Dalton.  While these chemists did produce books, it remained for William Henry to create a truly synoptic presentation that could be taught to all chemists: “The Elements of Experimental Chemistry” (1799).  The story of this book will be presented.<br/>
