Expanding upon our studies of electron-withdrawing perfluorinated pincer ligands RfPCP (Rf = CF3, C2F5), we report the coordination properties of new mixed alkyl/perfluoroalkyl-substituted pincers Rf,tBuPCP (Rf = CF3, C2F5) and their complexes with Ru, Ir and Pt. Rf,tBuPCPH pincer ligand precursors are readily accessed by treatment of 1,3-C6H4(CH2MgCl)2 with tBuPCl2, followed by perfluoroalkylation of the resulting rac/meso chlorophosphine Cl,tBuPCPH. Metallation to afford (Rf,tBuPCP)Ru(cod)H and (Rf,tBuPCP)PtCl products and a survey of their chemistry and the effects of CF3 versus C2F5 pincer substituents will be presented.
