Mechanistic aspects of electrophilic fluorination reaction of alkenes and cyclopropanes were studied. It was found that geminal difluorination reaction of styrenes and its derivatives may proceed through a phenonium intermediate. The 1,3-difluorination reaction of cyclopropanes involve the electrophilic ring opening. In both processes tetrafluoroborate counterion of silver provides the second fluorine.
