One-pot terpolymerization reactions of CO<sub>2</sub>/epoxides and other monomers employing switchable catalytic processes will be described. Previously we have reported the use of trace quantities of water during the copolymerization of epoxides and CO<sub>2 </sub>in the presences of binary (salen)MCl (M = Cr(III) or Co(III)) catalysts provides a source of polyols of well-defined molecular weights. Subsequent to polyol formation, the addition of lactide monomer and an organocatalyst leads to ring-opening polymerization initiated by the polycarbonate hydroxyl end groups. This in turn affords well-defined diblock or triblock polymers. In a similar process the addition of an alternate epoxide capable of modification provides diblock and triblock polymers for postpolymerization functionalization for various applications. Our efforts in these areas of polymer synthesis will be summarized in this presentation.
