Since rare-earth elements have the benefits of strong photo-stability, narrow emission band, and high chemical stability, functional nanomaterials with unique upconversion capability have attracted significant attention globally by the scientists. Recently, more research interests have been focused on the synthesis and surface modification of rare-earth upconversion nanomaterials. Solar cells have been regarded as a constantly sustainable energy as well. Solar cells can be classified as inorganic solar cells and organic solar cells. The advantages of amorphous silicon solar cells have the advantages, including low manufacturing costs, no package requirement, high manufacturing efficiency, variety of shapes and sizes, and flexible application. The organic solar cell is one of the important areas of research for low-cost solar cells in recent years. Based on the unique properties of solar cell as indicated above, the development of solar cell has been a mainstream in renewable energy field. In this article, the result has revealed that doping of lanthanide elements in MoS2 nanostructures is effective to change various structural, optical, and electrical properties of MoS2. MoS2 has attracted significant attention benefited from its unique properties, such as strong thermal stability and high chemical stability. Furthermore, the MoS2/graphene was characterized as the counter electrodes for Pt-free dye sensitized solar cells. It is shown that the MoS2/graphene counter electrode has a noticeable effect on the power conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells. Therefore, this study is to enhance the efficiency of amorphous silicon and dye sensitized solar cell using lanthanide elements doped MoS2/graphene to modify solar cell device.
