Previous work in the Diaconescu group focused on studying the activity of zirconium complexes supported by ferrocene-based ligands that can be controlled using redox reagents for ring opening polymerization reactions. Recently, we also found that switching between the oxidized and reduced forms of (thiolfan*)Zr(NEt2)2 (thiolfan*=(1,1′-bis (2,4-di-ter-butyl-6-thiophenoxy) ferrocene) resulted in different activityin inter- and intramolecularhydroamination reactions. We will discuss how [(thiolfan*)Zr(NEt2)2][BArF] can catalyze the intramolecular hydroamination of secondary alkyl, benzyl, and silyl aminoalkenes. We also found that both the reduced and oxidized forms of the zirconium complex can catalyze intramolecular hydroamination of primary alkyl aminoalkenes with different rates.
