Daphnia Magna is a versatile model system used to conduct a bioassay to explore the effects of Orphenadrine and silver nanoparticles, based on the time of exposure, on the heart beats rate per second of the organism. Due to its susceptibility, Daphnia Magna is used to study different mechanisms of inheritance and development, immunity response and toxicity. The objective of this investigation is to determine the effects of short-term exposure of silver nanoparticle and the drug Orphenadrine, on Daphnia Magna. The heart rates and the mortality times are monitored in three different treatments: the drug, the silver nanoparticle and a mixture of both. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles was accomplished by a reduction reaction using AgNO3 and NaBH4. Nanoparticles were characterized using DLS techniques (Dynamic light scattering) and UV Spectrophotometry. The study was based on the correlation between heart, and survival rates exposed to different volumes of nanoparticles and Orphenadrine. Results indicate that organisms exposed to 15µl of nanoparticles were more effective to increase the heart rates, consequently the survival rate was reduced. When exposed to the other treatments the results weren’t as drawn. <br/>
