Over the past several decades families of catalysts for the olefin metathesis reaction have been developed. They are now being utilized in the production of pharmaceuticals and materials. More recently these complexes have been modified to produce catalysts that will control the stereochemistry of the double bonds produced in the reaction and to control the tacticity of the ROMP produced polymers. Further substitution of the ligands of the basic complexes are resulting of new efficient selective catalytst.
