Discussed here are the syntheses of PPV derivatives and their respective distyrylbenzene analogues containing nitro, amino, and alkoxy moieties through two alternate pathways. Including the synthesis of a push-pull conjugated polymer with nitro and alkoxy groups. The synthesis of the different compounds was achieved through Bromination, protection, oxidation, reduction with sodium borohydride Michaelis-Arbuzov reaction, and Wittig coupling. Characterization of the products include H1-NMR and C13-NMR. Also included, are the bathochromic and hypsochromic effects of the solvent in fluorescence spectroscopy readings.
